How to Volunteer

Volunteer service is a valuable way for Visa employees to build leadership skills while improving the communities where we live and do business. The Visa Volunteers program encourages you to get involved in service – all while providing you with the resources and flexibility to do so! Starting in February 2017, we also launched Visa’s Volunteering Time Off (VTO) program – where you can participate in individual volunteering projects outside of the office during work hours. We look forward to having you involved.

The Visa Volunteers program supports a variety of types of employee volunteerism (especially around Financial Literacy) for regular employees, including:

  • Visa sponsored office-wide
  • Department/Function team volunteering
  • Ad hoc walk/runs for charity
  • Volunteering Time Off
  • Individual volunteering on one's own time outside of work

Type of Volunteering Description Support Offered

Site-wide volunteering (select locations)

Visa Volunteer Leaders offer a way for employees to get involved by directing local volunteer efforts.

Visa Volunteers leads will, as appropriate, scope, plan, and coordinate site-wide volunteer activities, including necessary supplies. The Benevity Spark! platform may be used to organize and promote events. Eligible activities will also receive logistical support from our global partner, HandsOn Network and its local affiliates. A list of global Volunteering Leads can be found here.

Team volunteering for department / function team-building

Visa departments interested in achieving a social impact while they build rapport and camaraderie may opt to volunteer as a team-building activity.

Volunteering Leads will help connect those interested in team-building through volunteerism with local recommendations and referrals for organizations that best match your group size, objectives and timeframe. Visa will provide our signature Visa Volunteers t-shirts, 'I Volunteered Today' stickers, as well as use of the online platform to organize and promote the event. Contact for more information.

Visa also supports ad hoc team volunteerism in Charitable walk/runs

Groups of employees may self-organize to volunteer at an event or participate in charity races.

For teams of 15+: Payment of registration fees (if applicable) up to US $50 per person; not to exceed a team total of USD $5,000 to go directly to a non-profit organization. Visa also supports such efforts through Visa Volunteers t-shirts, 'I Volunteered Today’ stickers, and use of the online platform to organize and promote the event. Please see here for program guidelines.

VTO and Individual volunteering outside of work

Visa employees may volunteer during or outside of work hours for causes important to them.

Use of the Benevity Spark! platform to identify local volunteer opportunities that align with their interests. For more information on VTO, please see the program guidelines under Resources.
